Vietnam emits roughly 350 Mt of CO₂ per year — about 0.94% of global emissions, ranking #17 worldwide. At 3.5 tonnes per person (#67 per capita), its footprint is below the global average of ~4.7 t.

Emissions have surged over the past five years (+30%) and surged over the decade (+90%). Growth in energy demand is still outpacing clean-energy deployment.

Renewables supply about 43% of electricity. The energy transition is well underway, but fossil generation still sets the emissions baseline.

Without policy shifts, emissions could grow another ~30% by 2030 as the economy expands. Maintaining clean growth while industrializing is the key challenge.
